I saw the Asus EEE for the first time in the flesh at my local PC World. I have to say it is of amazing value for young persons just wishing to use Open Office at home for example to do their homework or blogging as someone else suggested. Great portable bare-bones laptop. As for the Macbook Air, well. The Macbook Air has really generated a lot of publicity. Apple once again is continuing to put pressure on Microsoft. The success of the iPod amongst young people may be key to the success of the future success of the Macbook Air. With Apple making a keen impression on these young users, the future of consumer electronics will definately include Apple and I can see the Air being a real hit once the initial price is lowered slightly. All in all both notebooks/laptops are ideal within their own contexts. The Asus EEE is perfect for the light user and the Macbook Air equally perfect for the heavier user.

Good article. The Macbook Air is an extremely nice concept. It is so thin that side on you cannot almost see it. There are several problems however. The first is that there is no CD drive, this would annoy even the most computer abled person. Secondly, the macbooks footprint is large. Yes it's thin, but I'm sure most people would rather a slightly thicker laptop which took up less deskspace.

I think both machines are perfect for the blogger on the move, or for working on the train. The price of the asus is superb value for money, especially once you upgrade it yourself. The macbook air seems expensive in comparison, but its truly beautiful
