UPDATE below (click this to go there now)
I challenge myself to come up with the below stated themes in the next 30 days.
I started gathering ideas around May, when I released thumbnail images of the objects I wanted the themes to be based on. Then I got busy with exams (100-page business plan to be written) and later on tied to my bed due to a flu.
Starting July 1st I will start releasing one theme a day.
I hope the folks over at weblogtoolscollection.com
will be able to pick them up one by one.
All themes are free of charge, contain NO SPONSOR LINKS and are designed with love.
I put plenty of free UNPAID time in creating those themes. I hope that even though they have “new” rules at themes.wordpress.net their omnipresent moderator (who is he anyway?) will not delete them straight away. The idea with those upcoming themes is to create themes based on objects and their corresponding color, not to come up with 30 unique layouts. Milo, one of the designers that I really respect, comes up with plenty of cool new ideas, but half of her themes are “unfinished” business in my eyes. Stuff like that does not get deleted, does it?
Anyhow, below, an overview of the themes and their color schemes:

Thanks to goldcaster for his continuous interest in the progress.
Also thanks to Garry Conn for his comments some time ago. It really helped sorting my brain out. I hope that I might get coverage of my goal to design 30 themes this month by Lorelle. If Small Potato was able to do it (his themes were okay and clean, but not outstanding in terms of creativity and detail love!), then I can do it, too. One of my idol designers is Bartelme, just to be said. His themes are full of design love! Again, the idea is not to come up with different layouts, but to use one master layout and modify it every day and add little details to it presenting the featured object in the center of the page. All text will wrap around it. Even lists! Let’s see what the final product (or last theme) on July 31st will look like.
Curious about design work I did in the past?

13:50 cet Finished listing ideas with preview images (see list above). Seems like I missed one idea… but I will come up with another one. I plan to release either icey or dragee at 16:00 cet.
16:20 cet Dragee released.
17:25 cet (June 2nd) Second theme released – Glass a blue-ish theme. Changes to theme released on day #1
- Added an Adsense (Google) recommendation button ‘in the object’ (kind of overlay effect)
- Added top Categories
- Changed colors: blue ish theme
- New background pattern
- Moved the live-day script inside the object (the glass)
- Added a small Adsense (Google) banner to the lower left (right side).
- Fixed some minor bugs
15:35 cet (June 3rd) Third theme released – Mandarin an orange theme. I put a crazy amount of detail love in this. I hope anyone will find it handy. Please see the mandarin theme page for details and changes. There are plenty.
18:55 cet (June 4th) – Fourth theme released – Fresh Apple
I have not yet run out of ideas, wheh, so my challenge continues…
It is a three-column theme that is based on another object (as my challenge states, I want to design themes based on objects).
The object used is a green fresh apple that has earplugs “put on”.
Kind of “Apple music”… I guess.
Special features this time:
two adsense units placed and adapted – they are almost hidden on the page.
the base layout is based on the “3 column holy grail-css”. I adapted it in order to fit my needs.
not to forget the rounded corner nesting fun :)
18:35 cet (June 5th) – Fifth theme released – Moon
Moon is a (more or less semi fluid) three-column dark (as in black) and cold (as in blue) theme. It is designed around the moon, has two sidebars and features mootools. Click the “top” link in order to scroll up and you will see what moo is doing for you.
Same idea applies to the last three posts that are shown below the blogname.
My website keeps on going up and down, if anyone can recommend a dedicated hosting capable of serving 10,000 to 15,000 uniques a day, please drop me a line. – I think I will be going for zone.net – Does anyone know them?
17:35 cet (June 6th) – Sixth theme released – Cityscape / Sign A modern, urban-style two-column fluid theme. See the linked page above for details and screenshots.
I need to pause the challenge for the weekend as I got urgent client work to be done. I should be back on Monday! In the meantime check-out this week’s released themes (listed above)!
The designing continues
16:15 cet (June 9th) – Seventh theme released – bomb Not sure how to describe this, but it is a mainly white and blank theme with a smoking bomb. Actually two bombs, but hey… See the linked page above for details and screenshots.
08:15 cet (June 11th) – Eighth theme released -
Feather
Rainbow Feather is a fluid one-column wordpress theme. As the name suggests the colours in this theme are rainbow-ish. From Blue, baby blue, to yellow, orange, white, blue gradient and pink, barbie pink to evil pink. Cool features include: Fancy web2.0 like headings (wet graphics), custom badges “read on” and “continue reading”, matching color scheme/palette, Login area that shows logged in users (well it shows you and gives you options). This is only visible though if you have new user registration on. Also, a cool RSS-Feed graphic.

Very nice, 30 themes sounds like a crazy amount to pull off in 1 month, especially if they’re all going to be up to the standard of the first one. Good luck!
